How to Attach Clothes to Your Character for Animation in Blender 3.0

Are you struggling to attach clothes to your character for animation in Blender 3.0 and above? Follow these simple steps to seamlessly integrate your clothing onto your character for smooth and realistic movements.

Hiding Objects for Better Visibility

To start, hide unnecessary objects in your scene to focus on the task at hand. This step will make it easier to see and manipulate the elements you are working with.

Parenting the Shirt to the Armature

  1. Select the shirt mesh.
  2. Shift-select the armature.
  3. Press Ctrl + P to parent the shirt to the armature.
  4. Choose "Empty Groups" to ensure proper attachment.

Transferring Weights for Seamless Movement

  1. Select the character mesh.
  2. Shift-select the shirt.
  3. Enter Weight Paint mode.
  4. Navigate to the Weights tab.
  5. Select Transfer Weights.
  6. Ensure weight transfer from the character to the shirt.
  7. Adjust the source layers selection to By Name for accuracy.

Finalizing the Process

  1. Return to Object Mode.
  2. Select the armature.
  3. Enter Pose Mode to see the clothing now follows the character's movements seamlessly.

Now, with your clothing successfully attached to your character, you are all set to dive into animation with ease.
