How to Create Circular Camera Movement in Blender

Have you ever wondered how to make your camera move in a circular path while focusing on a specific object in Blender? In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process using Blender version 2.78c. Let's dive in and bring your animations to life!

Deleting the Cube and Adding the Object

  1. Start by deleting the default cube in Blender. Right-click on the cube, press X, and then hit Enter to delete it.
  2. Navigate to the create menu and under the mesh section, add a monkey object.
  3. Next, under the curve section, add a circle. Scale the circle by pressing S, then 5, and finally hitting Enter.

Making the Camera Follow the Circular Path

  1. Select the camera and, while holding the Shift button, select the circle.
  2. Press Ctrl + P on your keyboard and choose "Follow Path" to link the camera to the circle.
  3. In edit mode, select the point on the circle where the camera is connected, then press Shift + S and choose "Cursor to Selected" to position the 3D cursor accordingly.
  4. Switch back to object mode, locate the camera, right-click to select it, and press Shift + S to move the camera to where the 3D cursor is, aligning it with the circle.

Ensuring Camera Focus on the Object

  1. Set the frame number to zero by clicking on the timeline area.
  2. Select the monkey object, then press Shift + S and choose "Cursor to Center" to place the 3D cursor at the center.
  3. Add an empty object from the create menu. The camera will focus on this empty.
  4. Select the camera, add a "Track To" constraint from the object constraints, and choose the empty as the target.
  5. Adjust the settings to set the camera's focus on the object.

Controlling Camera Movement Speed

  1. Slow down the camera movement by adjusting the frame value of the circular path object. Increase the frame value, e.g., to 250, to reduce the speed.
  2. Press zero on the number pad to return to the perspective view and click the play button to preview the slowed-down camera movement.

By following these steps, you can create captivating animations with circular camera movement in Blender. Experiment with different settings to achieve the desired effects and bring your projects to life!
