How to Use Mixamo Animations on VRM Models in Unity

Mixamo offers a wide range of animations that can bring life to your Unity projects. In this tutorial, we will walk through the process of applying Mixamo animations on VRM models without losing the shader and physics components from the UniVRM plugin.

Exporting the Model to Mixamo

  1. Install the FBX Exporter Plugin:

    • Go to the Window tab at the top side of the screen.
    • Select Package Manager and then choose Unity Registry.
    • Search for "FBX" and install the plugin.
  2. Export to FBX:

    • Right-click on the model in the hierarchy window.
    • Select Export to FBX and click on Export to generate the FBX file.
  3. Upload to Mixamo:

    • Visit the Mixamo website and upload the FBX file of your model.
    • Choose an animation from the extensive library to apply to your character.

Applying Mixamo Animations

  1. Customize the Animation:

    • Modify the animation using the available sliders to suit your preferences.
    • Download the animation in FBX format for Unity.
  2. Import to Unity:

    • Create a new folder for animations in Unity.
    • Drag the downloaded animation file into the folder.
